John Britton's History and Description of Cassiobury Park, first published in 1817, documents the development of Cassiobury House into a fashionable neo-Gothic mansion. A later edition of the book, from 1837, incorporates engravings and aquatints from paintings by such artists as Augustus Pugin, JMW Turner, Henry Edridge and William Henry Hunt, all of whom were friends of the George Capel Coningsby, the 5th Earl.
