Goal-den Years
A celebration of the history of Watford Football Club through collections and exhibitions of memorabilia and memories
Goal-den Years, 1996-2001: Memories:
"The day we met Graham Taylor"
By Philippa Shattock, Richard Shattock (11), Sarah Shattock (9) and Ivy Scott
My children and I had the pleasure of meeting Graham Taylor at the Watford Football Club ground shortly after the open day in 1998.
I had been trying to take some photos outside the Hornets Shop in Vicarage Road after the open day training session, meet the players, etc., but to my disappointment the film jammed in my camera!
After writing to Graham at the club to explain my children's great disappointment, he promptly invited us to the stadium (before the team were due to travel to Grimsby for an away match) to meet him, and take those elusive photos!
My children, season ticket holder friend and I were delighted to have our own private photo shoot on the pitch on a lovely sunny afternoon.
Graham is such an honest, friendly and sincere person, and is also a true gentleman, great ambassador for the game and brilliant football manager. Thanks again Graham and good luck.
